About Madagascar

Madagascar is more than just an island from an animated movie. It’s a nation with over 200,000 species of plants and animals that don’t exist anywhere else in the world. But more than 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, displacing entire animal species and taking away the Malagasy’s ability to farm and live on the land. Entire mangrove estuaries are gone, leaving the bare earth to wash away into the sea.

This project helps restore ecologically devastated mangrove estuaries in the northwest of the country. Mangrove forests are essential ecosystems whose dense roots serve as an anchor for the soil and coastline preventing erosion and creating a barrier between harsh ocean systems and land.

More Places We Plant

California

Devastated by wild fires this year, California needs our help now more than ever. We're planting trees in the Plumas National Forest to help recoup the 65,000 acres burned in the 2007 Moonlight Fire.

Florida

Recent years of unhealthy forests have been major contributors to Florida's disastrous wildfires so we've decided on this project in Putnam Co., FL in efforts to help restore this biodiverse ecosystem.

Oregon

Forests are shrinking on state and private land in Oregon, where an estimated 522,000 acres of forest cover have disappeared since 2000. That's an area six times larger than the city of Portland, equal to more than half of Oregon's designated state forests.

Colorado

These precious forests face serious threats, including insect infestations, long-term drought, and forest fires. Unhealthy forests set the stage for exceptionally large, devastating wildfires that significantly increase risks of dangerous flooding, extreme erosion, degraded water quality and reduced water storage capacity.

Pacific NW Orca Project

Planting trees along rivers and streams of the Pacific Northwest restores habitat for the endangered orca. Trees help reduce pollution and improve the health and quantity of salmon for the orca to eat!

US National Forests

Working on behalf of the American public, the NFF leads forest conservation efforts and promotes responsible recreation. We believe these lands, and all they provide, are an American treasure and are vital to the health of our communities.
